Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) (日本工業規格, Nippon Kōgyō Kikaku?) adalah standar yang digunakan untuk kegiatan industri di Jepang. Proses standarisasi yang dikoordinasikan oleh Komite Standar Industri Jepang (Japanese Industrial Standards Committee) dan dipublikasikan melalui Asosiasi Standar Jepang (Japanese Standards Association).
Pada zaman Meiji, swasta bertanggung jawab untuk membuat standar. Namun, pemerintah Jepang telah memiliki dokumen standar dan spesifikasi untuk keperluan pengadaan.
Ini adalah ringkasannya untuk membentuk suatu standar resmi (JES) lama pada 1921. Selama Perang Dunia II, standard yang sederhana didirikan untuk meningkatkan peralatan output.
Sekarang Asosiasi Standar Jepang didirikan setelah kekalahan Jepang dalam Perang Dunia II pada 1945. Regulasi komite standard industri Jepang dibentuk yang bernama JES baru.
Hukum Standardisasi Industri yang telah ditetapkan pada tahun 1949, yang menjadi dasar hukum untuk keberadaan Standarisasi Industri Jepang (JIS)
Hukum Standardisasi Industri yang telah direvisi pada tahun 2004 dan "Tanda JIS" (sistem sertifikasi produk) telah berubah, dan JIS baru tandai ini diterapkan sejak 1 Oktober 2005 setelah sertifikasi ulang. Tanda lama tandai diperbolehkan untuk digunakan hingga 30 September 2008, untuk masa transisi selama 3 tahun, dan setiap manufaktur mendapatkan sertifikasi baru atau diperbaharui di bawah persetujuan badan otoritas kemudian dapat menggunakan tandai JIS baru. Karena itu semua JIS bersertifikat produk Jepang harus memiliki tanda JIS baru setelah 1 Oktober 2008.
Standar akan diberi nama seperti "JIS X 0208:1997", dimana X menunjukkan pembagian wilayah, diikuti oleh empat digit (atau lima digit untuk beberapa standar sesuai standar ISO), dan revisi tahun. Divisi dari standar JIS dan signifikan adalah:
